Sprocket Power CEO Maria Fields participated in a panel discussion at the New York Battery and Energy Storage Technology (NY-BEST) annual “Capture the Energy 2024 Conference” in Albany in mid-May. Fields emphasized the value of “behind the meter” solutions for their ability to directly control energy cost burdens for businesses seeking to adopt EV charging.
NY-BEST’s conference brings together hundreds of experts in the energy storage and renewable energy industry who are advancing energy storage as a powerful tool in meeting climate goals, modernizing the grid and transportation systems and growing the clean energy economy.
Fields especially focused on the benefits of integrating technology into a system to generate and manage energy use at commercial businesses. These systems move beyond “single measure” approaches such as battery or solar installations and integrate these systems with powerful tools like charge analytics, building management and total facility optimization. The panel discussed aspects of NY energy policy that relate to such systems, including the Value of Distributed Energy Systems (VDER) Value Stack, a performance-based program that compensates commercial businesses for their exported energy according to its contribution to the NY grid. The approach Fields discussed adds a layer of complexity to the build-out of EV charging stations but produces valuable dividends in future years by reducing utility costs as much as 50 – 80%.
